If so, you need to see your dentist and possibly your physician.   Some common symptoms include pain in or around the ear, tenderness of the jaw, pain when biting, or headaches.  Your dentist will conduct a thorough exam, which may include X-rays, to attempt to determine the cause of the pain.

Some possibilities include:

  • sinus problems
  • toothache
  • infections
  • arthritis
  • injury
  • tooth grinding
  • periodontal disease
  • problems with your jaw or the temporomandibular joint (TMJ)

Depending on what is found, there are a number of possibilities for treatment, including:

  • mouth protector
  • muscle relaxants
  • exercises
  • anti-inflammatory drugs
  • antibiotics
  • root canal therapy
  • periodontal treatment
  • extraction

If you’re suffering jaw or face pain, don’t continue to do so.  See your dentist and get an examination.  There’s no need to continue to suffer what in all likelihood can be addressed successfully.
